In 2008, 78 alcohol-related crashes took 87 lives on Montana roads, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. In 2009, 75 alcohol-related crashes claimed 82 lives. As of 12/27/10, the drinking and driving toll for 2010 was 54 lives lost in 48 crashes.

The significant drop in alcohol-related fatalities for 2010 coincides with a 12 percent decrease in all Montana traffic fatalities compared to 2009. However, traffic deaths in which alcohol was reported to be a factor decreased even more dramatically - down 41 percent from 2009.
